STCCI TRADE MISSION TO HOUSTON TEXAS VISITS HOUSTON AREA SAFETY COUNCIL
The Sekondi-Takoradi Chamber of Commerce and Industry recently concluded a high-level trade mission to Houston Texas, as part of its efforts to strengthen trade and investment ties between Houston and promising markets in the region.
The trade mission participated in the Offshore Technology Conference in Houston and seized the opportunity to visit Houston Area Safety Council.
The delegation which comprises the STCCI Members, Zeal Technologies, GPHA (Takoradi Port) and Takoradi Technical University was to further strengthen STCCI’s HSE Online Learning and Assessment in collaboration with the Houston Area Safety Centre (HASC)
STCCI affirmed that non-conformity to Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) Standards as required by Industry and especially the Extractive Industry is preventing most local businesses in Ghana from entering the extractive industry’s supply chain. Since the focus of these interventions is to build local businesses capacities in the extractive industry’s supply chain thus contributing towards the realisation of Ghana’s local content policies
Luis Aguilar, President & CEO at Houston Area Safety Council, Inc. welcomed delegates at their 34 acres of land at the new HASC campus, and noted that Ghanaian businesses could benefit from their expertise through the provision of a complete industry solution for a safety-focused culture that preserves life by educating, training and equipping the workforce to further the strategic partnership agreement signed with STCCI that would focus on boosting cooperation in the delivery of hands-on, instructor-led and computer-based safety training classes for industrial safety training, general safety, professional development and company- and site-specific orientations.
During the trade mission, Ato Van-Ess, Chairman, STCCI called on HASC to participate in the upcoming Ghana Extractive Industry Safety Conference in September 12-13, 2018 to be hosted by STCCI that will also transform STCCI to be innovative leader in building safe workplaces by improving the quality and integrity of the workforce in Ghana. He also highlighted the main benefits that the event can offer them. The Chamber was also invited to take part in the 32nd Annual Houston Safety Excellence Awards in May 2019.
