OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH & SAFETY ELEARNING TRAINING & ASSESSMENT CENTER

The OHS eLearning Center is a facility designed to offer trainings and assessments to Oil, Gas, Energy, Construction and other Extractive and Heavy Industry with emphasis on occupational health, safety and the environment. It offers mainly short training units delivered through computer-based training (CBT) and assessment. Training and assessment records are stored in a safe server infrastructure.

Currently the training centre provides three CBT namely

  • Huston Area Safety Council (HASC)
  • International minimum safety training
  • Flange Management

 

HUSTON AREA SAFETY COUNCIL (HASC)

Specializing in delivering safety, health and environmental training, the Houston Area Safety Council (HASC) offers over 1,500 different standardized and customizable courses as part of an ever-growing library designed to educate employees in a myriad of subjects.

General safety training courses are conducted through lectures, videos, hands-on safety training demonstrations, and computer-based multimedia programs. Multimedia training is self-paced and available on a first come, first served basis.

 

IMIST ASSESSMENT & TRAINING

 What is it

IMIST online is an interactive e-Learning training programme that works by assessing the safety knowledge of an oil and gas worker during a random sequence of assessment questions. At the end of this assessment, which is completed under time-bound conditions, the programme will automatically and dynamically assemble a unique course for each individual based on their knowledge gaps identified in the pre-assessment. The candidate is then presented with this content and the relevant summative assessment questions. This process is repeated until the candidate has managed to answer all the assessment questions correctly. A 100% pass mark is required to complete the IMIST programme. 

 

Duration of training

Training sessions are estimated to last between 3 and 6 hours depending on such factors as academic background and working experience 

 

Duration of certificate

Your IMIST refresher course should be undertaken every four years.  

 

Cost per participant

USD 195.00 per person per course, excluding value added taxes where applicable.

FLANGE MANAGEMENT SERVICES

Flange Management training programme provides the trainee with the necessary underpinning knowledge and practical skills to make and break flanged joints with manual bolt-up methods. At the end of this course all participants will be competent in ensuring the integrity of flanges on pipework and vessels in process plants.

This programme offers participants with the fundamental knowledge and skills on piping system, bolt tightening (torquing & tensioning) and techniques of tightening sequences.

Who should attend

Mechanical technicians.

 

By the end of this training course, participants will:

  • Planning and preparing for the work
  • Break flange in accordance with flange management procedure
  • Inspect Flange and components
  • Make flange joint in accordance with flange management procedure
  • Finish the job

 

Course Outline

Plan and prepare for job

  • Identify work requirements
  • Inspect job site
  • Confirm isolations have been completed to standard
  • Confirm hazard controls
  • Coordinate with appropriate personnel
  • Select appropriate tools
  • Check calibration and certification of tools as required
  • Complete checklists and records as required

 

Break flange in accordance with flange management procedure

  • Prepare tools, drip trays, and so on with appropriate care
  • Connect any required drain lines
  • Undo nuts in accordance with procedures
  • Split flange and drain pipe as required
  • Identify any skills escalation required
  • Manage open pipe
  • Complete checklists and records as required

 

Inspect flange and components

  • Assess cold pull and refer if required
  • Assess degree of misalignment and refer if required
  • Clean and inspect flange surface both front and back
  • Check studs and nuts
  • Confirm compliance of components and refer as required
  • Identify any problems and take appropriate action

 

Make flange joint in accordance with flange management procedure

  • Select appropriate gasket
  • Check all components are to specification
  • Apply lubricant as required
  • Complete initial assembly of joint
  • Insert blind as required
  • Attach drain if required
  • Re-check the gasket
  • Re-check alignment
  • Tighten using appropriate hand tools to procedure
  • Use torque calibration charts as required
  • Complete checklists and records as required

 

Finish the job

  • Make a final check of joint alignment
  • Organise required checks
  • Confirm joint integrity as required
  • Complete checklists and records as required

 

Methodology

To enhance learning effectiveness, hand on experience will be emphasized in this program through role-plays in class presentation, group facilitation and class critique.

 

Case studies, group discussions and video support will also be used to enhance learning experience. Fun quizzes will be injected to provide formative assessment and a fun learning environment.
